Night Skies at Biscayne
April 16th  8:00pm-9:30pm

Join us at Convoy Point as we celebrate our night sky on the eve of National Park Week. The evening will include educational ranger programs, family activities, and a special Night Explorer Jr. Ranger event. We ask that you wear closed, comfortable shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and bring/wear sunscreen and bug spray. Reservations are required. The park gate will open at 7:30 p.m. for registered attendees; the event will begin at 8:00 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m.

Marine Debris Volunteer Cleanup
April 18th  9:00am

After registering at this link, meet us at 9 a.m. at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center. The cleanup will begin with a short safety briefing, then volunteers will caravan in their own vehicles to the chosen cleanup location (if it is too far to walk). Once on-location, volunteers will be asked to collect as much garbage from the area as possible. We ask that you wear closed, comfortable shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and bring/wear sunscreen and bug spray. We also suggest that you bring snacks and water in reusable water bottles. Biscayne will provide trash bags, pickers, hand sanitizer, and other cleanup supplies. Masks must be worn for the safety briefing, and during the cleanup, if 6-foot distancing cannot be maintained. Group size is limited to eight participants due to Covid safety precautions, and spaces may fill quickly.

Fruition Virtual Artists’ Reception
April 18th  2:00-3:00pm

A virtual reception honoring the Tropical Botanic Artists, creators of our current art exhibit “Fruition.” The show features 26 beautifully detailed illustrations of the fruits, nuts and seeds of some of Florida’s native plants. The virtual reception will feature a gallery “fly-through,” a few words from each of the artists, a demonstration of some of the techniques the artists use, and a brief talk about plant reproduction with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s Jennifer Possley! Sit in on the event (which will be recorded), and then come by the Dante Fascell Visitor Center any day between 9 and 5 to see the show in person!

The show is made possible by The Alliance for South Florida’s National Parks, and the virtual reception is made possible by the Florida National Parks Association.

Nike Missle Site Open House

Everglades National Park houses one of the best-preserved relics of the Cold War in Florida, a historic Nike Hercules missile site called “Alpha Battery” or “HM69”. Volunteers will be onsite to answer questions and provide information.  

Nike Missle Site Tour
April 17&18th  2:00pm

Step into the Cold War for a tour of the historic Nike Missile Site, HM69. See an actual missile and many of the original support buildings. Guided tours begin at 2:00 pm, by reservation only. Tours are accessible, 0.7 miles, and last 1.5 hours.

Shark Valley Citizen Science
April 24th  10:00-2:00pm

Join rangers and a hydrologist as we take water samples around the Shark Valley area. Learn about what it looks like to do this crucial task to keep the Everglades healthy. Testing will take place from 10-12 and are limited to 5 groups/parties. A talk with a hydrologist will take place at noon and will adhere to social distancing regulations and mask mandates. Another round of testing will take place following the talk.

Flamingo in a Nutshell

At the Flamingo Campground Amphitheater

There are a multitude of things that make Flamingo special. Come join park staff for this 30-minute program to look into Flamingo’s uniqueness while enjoying a backdrop of the beautiful Florida Bay and mangrove islands. The program is at our amphitheater which is accessible and has socially distanced bench seating. Staff will also be available on-site for a question and answer session directly following the formal program. Be prepared for the possibility of flying insects such as mosquitos.  

Evening Ranger Program

At the Flamingo Campground Amphitheater

Join a park ranger for A 30-minute peak into the ranger experience and the wondrous treasures of your National Park. The ranger will also be available on site for a questions and answers session afterword. The program is at our amphitheater which is accessible and has socially distanced bench seating. Don’t forget your flashlight and be prepared for flying insects such as mosquitos.

Osprey, manatees, and crocodiles are some of the most unique animals living along our Florida coasts and waterways. Join a ranger for these 15-minute programs to find out more about these amazing creatures during National Park Week. Question and answer sessions will follow. The programs are at the Flamingo Marina area which is accessible.  

Paddling Explorations

At the Gulf Coast Visitor Center in Everglades City, FL 

With a ranger as your guide, paddle across the Chokoloskee Bay to explore the mangrove islands or paddle inland through the waterways. If tide and weather allow, trip may include a short walk on an island. Bring your own canoe/kayak or rent one from our concession partner.

Reservations Required: Call 239-695-3311 to make reservations. Duration: 4 hours; Strenuous. The program is free but fees apply to rent a canoe or kayak from our concession partner if needed.
10,000 Islands Boat Tour
April 17-25th  10:00& 2:00pm daily
At the Gulf Coast Visitor Center in Everglades City, FL 

Discover the 10,000 Islands on a large catamaran boat headed to the Gulf of Mexico! Concession-operated boat tours are narrated by a Park Ranger or volunteer naturalist.

FEE: Adult (Ages 13-61): $40.00 Senior (Ages 62+): $36.00 Military (Active & Retired): $36.00 Children (Ages 5-12): $20.00. Young Children (Ages 4 and Under): Free

Everglades Immersion: Cypress Slog

Explore the cypress domes of the Florida Everglades with a naturalist from the Everglades Institute. Learn about the plants and animals that call these cypress domes and sloughs home with this informative program!
